PHP is more than just a web programming language. In this talk I discussed how I've used it to control barcode scanners, electric curtains, create a PHP-powered sprinkler system, and in many other little automation projects.

I covered the problems of controlling the parallel port from a scripting language and how I got by them using small helper programs written in C.
