Thu, Jan 12th 2:42pm 2006: Writing

Whew, been a long time coming though! It's been 18 months since I first had discussions with O'Reilly about writing a Hacks book, and although I was a technical advisor for Linux Desktop Hacks that was just a teaser and I've been really wanting to do a book on either Debian or Ubuntu. My original pitch to them had been to take The Debian Universe and turn it into a book, and initially it looked like that was going to take shape as Debian Explorer's Notebook (or somesuch: the title was never finalised) but for various reasons it didn't work out.
But now the wheels are a turnin' again, although with a new focus and a new title: Ubuntu Hacks! Looks like Kyle Rankin (of Knoppix Hacks fame) and I are going to be the principal authors, with a number of hacks contributed by a variety of other people. We've got a basic Table of Contents and an outline written up, and we're in the process right now of finalising the book structure, assigning sections, etc.
Woot!
