Tue, Mar 29th 8:10pm 2005: Conferences
There was a bit of a kerfuffle about it today, because there are more people who have 'registered' than places available. Basically the way it works is that the registration process is in two parts: the first part is submitting the registration request, then the second part is paying for it. Until a place is paid for it's not considered to be taken, so a heap of people have submitted their registration details but not got around to paying for their spot.
End result is that as of this morning there were something like 18-ish places available, with about 70-ish people who had registered but not paid. People who have registered but not paid have been getting regular reminder emails saying their place isn't guaranteed until the $$$ have changed hands, but with everything else going on the impending end of registrations had slipped under the radar a bit. Then this morning Mikal blogged about it, everyone got in a tizz and the rush was on.
There are probably a few people pretty upset right now that they missed out, but them's the breaks. The reminder emails have been regularly going out and the conference site has had a counter on the home page, so no-one can say they weren't warned.
