For a little while now I've been working on organising a doctor to implant an RFID tag in my hand so I don't have to carry keys. I've been building 2 types of RFID readers: simple ones that just spit the tag ID out the serial port, and complex ones with a microcontroller that can make decisions and control stuff directly. All the staff at IVT now have keyfob-style RFID tags so they can get in the front door of the office just by waving their keys in the vicinity of the lock, and I'm working on putting readers everywhere at home as well (and in the car so I can unlock it without a key). I had an appointment with a surgeon today to discuss what would be involved with implanting a tag and where to put it. My intention had been to go with the space between thumb and forefinger like Ishmell but the surgeon said there's not much subcutaneous fat there so the tag would basically sit directly on muscle which may not be so good, especially long-term. She suggested it may be better in the arm, which might be medically preferable but wouldn't be quite so functionally convenient. I'd prefer it to be directly in my hand so I could do things like put a reader inside a doorknob then just grab the knob to unlock the door.
